Truckee River
The Truckee River flows from Lake Tahoe to Pyramid Lake. When John C. Fremont and Kit Carson ascended the Truckee River in 1844 they called it Salmon Trout River, after the huge Lahontan cuthroat trout that run up the river from Pyramid Lake to spaw. The river was ultimately named after a Paiute chief known as Truckee. But there is some debate about what his real name might have been.
